The past couple of weeks, I’ve felt this strong pull towards bringing my walk with the Lord into a sharper focus. This is about establishing what foundation it is that I stand on exactly. Now this is not about abandoning central Christian doctrines, but actually in being able to understand and articulate them more clearly myself. I can say that I believe certain things but without knowing just what that is…then it becomes pointless for me. More importantly, it could open up a gateway for me to begin believing most of the nonsense that floats around claiming to be biblical Christianity, when it actuality those things stand directly opposed to it. Not just that, but how can I stand up and confront false teachings if I can’t fully explain myself what makes them false? Sometime very soon, I’ll grab the book on systematic theology put out by Wayne Grudem, so well spoken of by Paul Washer and my good friend Isaac.
Lately I’ve discovered a few great articles on How to Discern as well as some that define clearly what is the Easy-Believism that is so prevalent in our churches today.
How to Discern: found on Herescope.com – (beginning w/ How to Smell A Rat -which is part 1 thru How to Discern part 6)
Easy-Believism: found on Posessing the Treasure, the excellent blog of Mike Ratliff – (begin reading articles titled ‘The Abomination of Easy-Believism’ ~ currently a 4 part series)
A more recent topic I’ve discovered is romanticism and how it impacts the teachings coming in through the Emergent Emerging church. Below is a basic article on the topic. It even describes some of what is becoming commonly accepted in our churches, such as the Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and Chronicles of Narnia material.
“Christian” Romanticism, the INKLINGS, and the Elevation of Mythology: found on crossroad.to, the site of Kjos Ministries.
I have yet to fully read any of the above material myself, but all this info comes from reputable sources in the online discernment community.
